Biorower develops digitally assisted, realistic indoor rowing trainers. For the first mass-produced model, product design turned years of technical development into a tangible brand and a desirable product. Antimatter founder Heinrich Lentz contributed to the project while employed as design director with Peschkedesign.

Product design needed to give life to a nascent brand, showcase features and safely house moving parts. The project was carried out under a tight development schedule with overseas production partners.
The product should convey both rowing and technology expertise. The dynamic force and reversing motion characteristic of the sport were translated into tense, oblique lines - combining performance and digital clarity for a compelling design language.
Tight, intersecting volumes are accented with speed lines, giving structural rigidity. Coupling rods swing in/out and back/forth within sculpted slots. Electronics at the oarlock hinges are housed within protective casings.
Developed for production, the concept required only minor structural adaptations. Fan air intake was moved to the belly, as lateral aspiration proved insufficient. The body tightly encases mechanical internals.
Negative-drawn thermoforming was employed for clean detailing, tight radii and low tooling costs. Defined to production constraints along with overseas production partners, pre-series parts could be inspected within 8 weeks from project kick-off.
Biorower S1 features a geometry setup identical to that on a skiff and fan resistance mimicking real-life conditions.
Realtime data is analyzed and monitored on the screen to help athletes improve technique and performance: stroke rate, force curves and left/right comparative graphs. Achievements can be shared with technical staff and peers directly from the device.
Smart performance and design
Unveiled at the 2017 World Rowing Masters at Bled/Slovenia, Biorower has caused a stir in the rowing world from day one. Winner of the 2018 ISPO Brand New award as the most advanced rowing trainer on the market, Biorower S1 revolutionizes the sport with smart digital technology and design.
